Productive Day

Today was super productive. I went to AC Moore and got craft supplies,  made a Gator wreath, learned how to crochet, started on making a neck warmer/scarf,  practiced tap dancing for an hour and a half  and now I am snuggling with my hubby watching Charlies Angels.

Tomorrow I hope to accomplish:
- finish my scarf
- give the puppies a bath
- organize all of the new coupons
- vaccum
- practice tap for an hour
- go to the base thrift shop and try to find my husband a new uniform top

Rag/Fabric Gator Wreath

My first attempt at being crafty didn't go nearly as well as planned but it was fun to work on it. I made a Gator colored wreath from a bunch of blue fabric I had and a big orange bow (note to self work on your bow making skills because they are not very good). My wonderful husband said it looked really good but I think he is blinded by love :)

So this was super easy. My hubby molded an old wire hanger into a circle and secured it with military duct tape ( it is a little small because I discovered we only owned 1 wire hanger and it wasn't a complete hanger). Then I cut my material into 1"x 8-10" strips and tied them around the hanger. Super easy. The part that took the longest was cutting the strips.

Things I will do next time: Use a fabric that is the same color on both sides, cut all the fabric at once, not try to cut the fabric with Alli laying on half of it, use a complete hanger

My journey to exceling at being a homemaker

So I decided I am going to embrace being a homemaker. Last December I gave up my career to follow my amazing husband to Connecticut. Being that he is in the military we didn't have a lot of say about where we are going and how long we were going to be living here. We were told we were going to live here less than a year so I decided not to resume my career because it would not be very fair to only work for a company for 9 months.

Before this move I had not only never lived with my husband, I never cooked. I actually didn't do much besides work and play with my dogs, Alli and Gator. I was one of "those" people glued to my blackberry and after working a 10 hour day, going home and answering more e mails. I loved working. I loved being busy, I loved accomplishing something.

When we moved to CT I did a complete 180. I went from being a busy productive person to being a lazy bum. It was a good day if I got out of my pajamas. I avoided going outside because this Florida girl isn't very fond of being cold and I hid out in my house because I didn't really know have any motivation. I was ever increasingly thankful for my DVR.

Then I got pregnant and I got a renewed sense of purpose. I didn't want to be a lazy mom. I wanted to be a super mom, just like my own mother. I started on little projects, started wearing clothes that weren't elastic, baggy, or t- shirts and I started being social. I even decided to get a part time job with weight watchers so that I could help others lose weight. I loved having a reason to get out of bed, I loved being productive, I loved working again.

Then I miscarried, went through a bunch of surgeries, fertility drugs, miscarried again, and somehow along the way lost my ambition to be productive. Sounds silly but I joined Pinterest and saw all these wonderful things I could make. I always wanted to be a housewife so I could make fabulous meals, sew, do crafts, have a spotless, well decorated house, cute clothes, and keep my days full with things I love. Well I got my dream of being a housewife and all I was doing was watching TV.

So here I go. Today is a new day and I am going to embrace being a housewife. I am going to be crafty, make healthy, yummy meals, learn to sew, make beautiful baked goods, crochet, find creative ways to save us money, and finally decorate this house I have been living in for almost 10 months (yes my house is still not decorated). I am going to embrace all things domestic!
